Good Friday!

It was Good Friday yesterday! And you know what that means! It's the end of Lent! I'm sure you all won't believe it, but for the past 40 days and 40 nights, I gave up buying new DVDs and video games! That's like over a month! And believe me when I say it wasn't the most fun experience I've ever had, especially since I've been dying to play Civilization III for a while now.

Anyway, to celebrate the ending of Lent, I went and bought a copy of Daredevil: The Director's Cut. Trash, perhaps... but hey!

Work Work Work Work Work

It's all I ever seem to do these days! I gotta find something different to do. And find a new pet peeve aside from people who don't want to pay their late fees!

Does anybody wanna see Avril in concert?

Avril Lavigne is coming to town, but nobody wants to go to her concert with me. Now that does suck... Doesn't anyone out there wanna see Avril? She's matured as a performer! She's got some really good material now! Sure it's called the Bonez Tour... but I'm sure it'll be pretty cool!

Anybody?

"Would you like to upsize your rental and get another DVD for just $2.50?"

Recently, I began work as a Video Store Jockey. Why? Because I feel that it's somewhat like a rite of passage or something. Kevin Smith, Tarantino, and many others started out there first. And so it's been something that I've always wanted to do. That, and the fact that all the video production studios turned down my applications (but this is just a minor reason).

Of course, talk to somebody about it and it'll be like "Aren't you just a little bit overqualified and too old to be jockeying a video store?" Why yes, but it's something I wanna do so fuck off!

It's like when I started skateboarding... It was quite sad to see a 22 year old running around with a skateboard trying to skate, when it's an activity he really should've picked up and gotten proficient at when he was like 15 or something.

Well, here I am again... running around in a video store in an entry level retail job, when it's a job I really should've gotten out of my system when I was like, well... 17 or something.

And while I'm at it, I really should learn to drive too, because most people learn to drive when they're 18.

But you know what? I can deal with that. Like Tyler Durden says: "You're not your job... You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet... You're the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world."

And me? I'm just a slow starter, I guess.

Poll site STILL not working

Well this is pretty fucking annoying but the Freepolls site that I use for the site's polls still seems to be down for some unknown reason. Damn that's annoying.

---

On the plus side, The 4th Place has resurfaced! It was hiding next to my scanner under a receipt or some other loose scrap of paper. Unfortunately, Nick has borrowed the camera for a while, so I can't upload the video onto the site quite yet.

Poll site not working

Whoops! The Freepolls site is down or something, so I can't update the new poll. So just bear with us for a while. In the meantime, the 4th Place is still AWOL.

Rodney Mullen is the most amazing person in the world!

Rodney Mullen is the single greatest skateboarder ever. I love Eric Koston and Heath Kirchart as much as anyone else, but Rodney Mullen is amazing. This guy is a god! This is why I bought his SHOES! Both the S3's and the orange tensors!

This update will not be of much interest to anybody who doesn't skate. As it is, it's probably not going to be of much interest to those who do skate either. Oh well. Eat a bowl of fuck!

Caspers and darkslides and more - oh my!

The 4th Place has gone AWOL!

I was about to capture The 4th Place today so that I can upload it onto the site, but then I realized with a sick feeling in my stomach that I can't seem to find it anywhere! Goddamnit I've misplaced the Master Copy of The 4th Place! I could've sworn I put it aside recently to remind myself to capture it, together with the Footskating footage... but now I seem to have forgotten where exactly I put it. Fuck!

Battle of the Goth Metal Girls

When Daredevil was released a couple of years ago, two major stars were born from it. One was Ben Affleck's hair, and the other was Evanescence. The first time I watched it, I walked away all amazed at how nice The Affleck's hair could be... but shortly after I realized that most other people walked away singing "Bring me to life". Don't get me wrong, it's a nice song (except for the annoying male rapping guy).

Anyway, Chris bought their debut album at a nifty discounted $19.95 and we realized that the rest of the album was much better. In fact, it was pretty good. And soon after, the rest of the world realized it too and then Evanescence joined the ranks of the "over-played on the radio" bands. And of course, the album was subsquently bumped back up to a rip-off RRP of $29.95.

Everyone was all hopped up on how amazing the concept of a hot female vocalist singing in a pseudo goth-metal band. It was new, it was fresh; it was like Tori Amos playing music for the masses.

What most of the world doesn't know is, European metal bands like Lacuna Coil and Nightwish were milking this concept waaay back in 1997.

Amy Lee,
Evanescence

But European metal bands being European metal bands, they didn't have the kinda big publicity push that would propel them to world fame. In fact, only people like Cedric and Fabo would know who Lacuna Coil and Nightwish are. And while they're at it, they can probably name-drop Within Temptation too (I have absolutely no idea who they are... but do an internet search for the topic and they'll pop up; while I'm at it... what a shit name for a band!).

Cristina Scabbia,
Lacuna Coil

Tarja Turunen,
Nightwish

Sharon Janny den Adel,
Within Temptation

But if you ask me, the credit should go to Theatre of Tragedy for jump-starting the whole goth metal with a female vocalist gimmick. And I think they still did it the best, by contrasting a creepy male metal-grunt voice with haunting soprano-style female singing. Sad to say though, Liv Kristine of Theatre of Tragedy wasn't the sexiest chick in the world, so more attention went to Cristina Scabbia for that reason. I think she's the only one of them that's been featured in a non-music magazine.

Liv Kristine,
Ex-member Theatre of Tragedy

Anyway, I'm digressing. So here are the Goth Metal Girls that I managed to dig up, so you decide which one of them should be the ultimate Goth Metal Chick.

Personally, I think Cristina Scabbia is the hottest. Tarja Turunen reminds me of that WWE wrestler Lita, and Sharon from Within Temptation looks more like a bit too Eurotrash.

Amy Lee has a really nice voice... but she's got such an unfortunate name though. Look up any of the others on the internet and you'll find them without problems. Run a search for Amy Lee and you'll find sites like this one.

Liv Kristine has a nice voice too, but she left Theatre of Tragedy because of "creative differences" and well... I really like Theatre of Tragedy. But anyway...

So who's your favorite Goth Metal Girl? Go and vote in the poll!
