Concept sketches of Kimble One of the things I really wanted to do with the new site was the reintroduction of Kimble and Munky as major characters in the Deadpan universe. And the way to do that was to give them actual personalities instead of leaving them as just stuffed toys that sorta appear in the videos in cameo roles every now and then. So there was that whole little shtick about Shiven and Chris animating the two toys as their Familiar and sidekick... which allowed me to explain why Kimble and Munky were suddenly living sentient entities instead of soft toys who just sit around looking all cute and shit. I first bought Kimble the Raccoon because I saw this cute-assed little thing sitting on a shelf with his sad eyes... and I thought that's totally cool. Because of his sad eyes and frown, I always envisioned the little guy as this depressed little shit who moped around and sulked. So when it was time to give him a personality... it wasn't all too hard to figure it out. There's no real reason for Kimble to be depressed. But he is anyway, simply because he's been depressed for so long it's all he really knows how to do. He probably doesn't even remember what he was depressed about to begin with... All of this was kinda tapped from my experiences brooding and pining for an ex... I get pretty broody after a relationship, and often I like to sink into depression for the sake of doing so... and long after I'm over her, I'll still brood for the sake of brooding by putting on The Cure or something. So there's Kimble: The broody depressed raccoon.
There aren't many concept sketches of Kimble because I kinda knew what he was going to look like from the start. The only differences in the sketches are his face and size. Figure 1 shows what his eyes looked like originally... because they were sorta modelled after the scary ghost-face mask in Scream. Then there's Kimble's evil twin in Figure 2, and the really FAT Kimble in Figures 3 and 4. I tried to figure out how fat the little guy should be... but in the end I thought it'd be better if he wasn't too chubby, although the original Raccoon toy is kinda on the chubby side... here's a pic:
I'm so sad and depressed!
