Bleeder Bleeders are elite super-soldiers developed by the military for small-scale operations. Possessed of superior strength and reflexes, Bleeders also command varying levels of psychokinetic and telepathic powers, making them highly suited for elite operations where normal human soldiers will not suffice. However, their powers are accompanied by a curse of eternal menstruation (thus the term Bleeder) and require a regular infusion of blood as sustenance, effectively making them real-life vampires. Bleeders were first conceived in 1952 when it was discovered that PMS triggered a latent part of the human brain that if properly tapped and channeled gave the female special powers. Of course, the power came at a price and the women suffered from violent mood swings and extreme bitchiness. By the late 1960's the military had begun secret experimentation with this phenomenon to create a living super-weapon, by recruiting and training natural Bleeders. A project was also devised to create artificial Bleeders, including male versions. Scientists began work on bio-engineering the Germaine Greer virus to achieve this goal. In 1979, the first male Bleeder was created. Experimentation with male Bleeders proved to be a limited success: as their bodies were biologically less equipped to cope with the pain their powers were greatly amplified, but they were also more likely to succumb to insanity and bitchiness. In 2001, a Bleeder named Chris escaped from the labs and rebelled against his human masters. The threat was neutralized, and subsequent experimentation placed limits on Bleeder powers until the pain can be more easily controlled. Experimentation and development
of the Bleeder project continues to this day. |
