Drew Kombat

While shooting Idle Dreams, it occurred to me that the whole animated still photo concept can be expanded a bit from what it's like in that movie. So I thought of using photos as sprites and animating it so that we can get weird stuff happening, like cheesy super-imposing and stuff... without it looking too glaringly strange since the whole video will be done like that.

The early Mortal Kombat games used this concept, so I figured I might be able to do the same. So one morning I went and videotaped myself doing a bunch of punches and kicks and stuff, and then isolated the still captures in Photoshop and turned the images into sprites and then animated all of them in Premiere... and then voila! Suddenly I'm fighting myself on top of the Esplanade, throwing fireballs around and performing triple forward flip-kicks... and all this happened with a lot of blood spilling everywhere!

I even color-corrected my shirt to a different color just like the whole Sub Zero/Scorpion thing and added Mainey as the "Toasty!" person. I love color correction. That shirt I was wearing in the intro screen was actually green (the blue és shirt was in the wash).

Now that this experiment's done... I'll see if I can expand the idea even more and make a full action scene with different camera angles and more background interaction.
