Trivia

  • The total budget for HotD2 was $45.85. This includes a tube of fake blood, 8 blood capsules, zombie make-up and fish & chips for everyone.
  • Every bit of dialogue and sound is lifted straight from the video game. Of course, some dialogue was used completely out of context. The only sound effects not taken from the game are the light saber sounds.
  • The chapter names are identical to the ones used in the game.
  • The video was edited when I locked myself up in the editing suite and edited for about 7 hours straight without a break. Then I went down another generation for sound effects and dialogue, and once more for the music… thus the master ended up as 4th gen. However, I lost that copy and now I only have a 5th gen copy left.
  • In the low angle shot where Goldman approaches the two agents, a cork rolls across the floor. We have no idea why that happened, but it was pretty cool nevertheless. So cool that we replicated it with a yo-yo in PMS.
  • In the uncompleted Damo movie, a Bananas in Pajamas doll was used to represent an Icon of Evil (named Ike). In HotD2 a Tails doll (ingeniously disguised with a hair-band and a wrist-band) is used to represent Judgment, the flying zombie. Munky the Monkey then appears in both UGR and The Fourth Place. Sooner or later all of my toys are going to appear in a movie.
B2 as Ike, the Icon of Evil
Tails as Judgment
  • The sword that Kuarl carries is a replica of the sword used by Mel Gibson in Braveheart. The mask he wears is a replica of the Ghost face mask used in Scream. The little flying thing around him is a Tails doll. That's a lot of advertising for one zombie.
  • The entire video was shot in one day. Which was pretty good time, really. No rehearsals or anything (and it shows!).
  • There are a couple of scenes involving Amy and Harry that were cut out because the actors that were supposed to play them never turned up.
  • The light-saber fight at the end was ad-libbed, when we realized that we had a couple of light sabers lying around. Of course, with Simon being the competent stuntman that he was (check out his flying leap!), it took us about fifty million takes to get the saber sequence shot. The slicing of the double-ended light saber in half was accidental and not intentionally done to resemble the Obi-wan/Darth Maul fight in The Phantom Menace, and Dave was subsequently quite upset.
  • The sign next to the gun says: "MAGIC GUN. For use against the Emperor only. If life persists, please apply more liberally. Keep out of reach of children." The gun is of course a light-gun for the Sega@Dreamcast.
  • In the entire movie, Gary and James kill at least 14 zombies (including the boss characters), Goldman, and 3 civilians (it's assumed that the dumb-ass outside Goldman's Headquarters dies… they put at least 10 bullets into him, after all). And they only reload once. In comparison, the zombies only had 4 confirmed kills.
  • The "Invisible zombies" credit is given to Megan and Pete, who had reassured me beforehand that they would be there… especially Pete, who really wanted to play G.
  • A "director and crew commentary" was made when Simon, Dave and I watched the video one night while completely drunk and videotaped ourselves laughing and talking about the video. I can't find the footage anywhere because I was told to destroy it as Simon moons the camera with an exposed ball-sack during the commentary.

Goofs:

  • The car parks itself in the opening sequence.
  • We can clearly see Dave's arm as he flings clothes in the air when Amy is supposed to get hacked to pieces.
  • The sword that Kuarl uses regularly switches hands in each shot.
  • Gary and James switch positions when they start blasting at Kuarl.
  • In the scene where two AMS agents first meet Goldman, the whole crew can be seen reflected off the glass door behind him.
  • When James does his John Woo "diving through the air with guns blasting" move, we can clearly see the cushions placed on the floor for him to land on.
  • The camera can be seen reflected off the door that the Emperor emerges from.
  • If you look closely you can see yellow tape holding the double-ended light saber together after it was accidentally broken in half.
  • Lots and lots of badly synched sound bites everywhere.
